Determining the ancestry of your mixed breed dog will help you know more about your dog’s temperament and health tendencies. But it is difficult to know which dog dna test to trust. Having been a dog owner for years, I recently reveiwed Canine Heritage XL Breed Test and found it to be the most complete at-home Dog DNA Test with testing from over 100 possible dog breeds.
While no test is perfect, Canine Heritage XL provided a solid reassuring result. And I ordered from a source that had free shipping.  (On sale for $99.95 while supplies last)

After reviews, my second choice was BioPet DNA Breed Identification Kit. The price was less but the test provided less, as it tested from only 62 possible breeds. Therefore, I would go with Canine Heritage XL. No vet appointment is necessary with either test.

Have you ever wondered about the breeds bundled into your loveable mixed breed dog?

Now genetic science has come to the rescue with dog dna testing that will determine your best friend’s ancestry.  Dog DNA test or genetic dog breed testing is a relatively new opportunity to check out your dog breed dna. Is yours a mix of a bichon or a poodle or what? Dog DNA tests provide valuable information to you about your dog’s origin.

There are many reasons to search out a dog breed test.

Of course, you will have a better answer to the inevitable question "what kind of dog do you have"? But testing satisfies more than natural curiosity about your dog’s breed mix.

You may be interested to verify purebreed status of your dog. You can verify that your dog is in fact a purebred. You can certify the identity of the sire when using artificial insemination and can identify which pups belong to a particular sire in cases of multi-sire breedings.

But for the man’s-best-friend-family-member, the dog breed dna test will also give valuable information about your dog’s health risks as some dog breeds are very prone to certain illnesses.
The canine test will give you more information about your dog’s temperament and behavior, as certain breeds have their own distince behaviors. The training program you may design for your dog can be customized for your dog breed identification if you know the breed characteristics of your canine.

The dog dna origins test fills in the blanks and is a fun way to know more about your dog. More and more dog owners are requesting to determine the dna heredity for their dogs. And why not. Puppy dog DNA testing, or for that matter, for dogs of any age, is affordable and will return answers about your dog.
Canine identification utilizes dna research from AKC recognizable breeds, returning results about your dog’s breed or breeds.

Canine genetic technology continues to evolve. Presently, testing for dogs is available in two different forms.

The first dog dna test is a home kit for dog dna breed testing. It requires the collection of cells from the cheek of your dog using a buccal or cheek swab which is provided in the home kit. The swab is sent to the lab for further analysis. At least one of the home kits provides analysis based on 100 dog breeds.

A more comprehensive dna-based mixed breed test requires a blood draw which must be drawn at your veterinarian’s office. The dog dna blood test identifies more than 130 AKC-recognized breeds that may be present in mixed breed dogs. If your vet does not offer the blood test, test kits are available for you to take to your vet’s office if you can win approval for this with your vet.

The bottom line is that we love our dogs and knowing the dna breed mix of a mixed breed dog will not change the loving attention we shower upon our dogs. By knowing about dna testing for dogs and cost, we may be able to provide a better quality of life for our dogs. Breed reports will allow us to customize the care of our pet in the areas of temperament, diet and health.

And the next time you take your dog out in public, you will be able to answer, with confidence, that inevitable question "What kind of dog is that?"
